Praise be, stoners. This may add much needed weight to the decriminalisation argument. Researchers at the University of California have discovered the link between the “love” or “hug” hormone (oxytocin) and the effect of marijuana on human behaviour that improves interpersonal bonding. Oxytocin triggers the release of a chemical called the “bliss molecule” (or anandamide), which helps to activate brain receptors and increase happiness and motivation. Testing this with animals showed that mice which were given the marijuana, which stops anandamide deterioration, reacted as they enjoyed spending time with their mice mates much more, than mice that were served with a placebo drug.

This is the first study of its kind to look at weed and oxytocin, and on a serious note, looking into this further could help scientists know more about oxytocin and social impairments, like autism, and potentially develop new methods to tackle symptoms of autism.

What do hugs and weed have in common? Well, both either make you feel comfortable or earth-shatteringly anxious. Sometimes, mood dependent, they make you pretty horny. But apparently they could have the ability to make you bond with people. Like make real connections maaaan.

Want to get close and personal with someone? A new study shows a link between oxytocin and THC improves interpersonal bonding

I’m not sure if I bond much with people when I smoke weed, or that I’ve seen much evidence of it either. Whenever I get stoned, or walk into a living room of people smoking and hanging out, I’m more freaked than friendly. Maybe I’m smoking the wrong weed. Maybe I’m hanging out with the wrong people.

“Favorite thing to do? Get head. Best music? Al Green. Snack? Slim Jim.”

“Honestly, weed keeps me calm. I like smoking and listening to music and thinking. I came up with a lot of ideas smoking weed lol. Gotta be gas tough — all I smoke now is biscotti, wedding cake, and cookie. They’re my top right now! I don’t really watch a lot of TV like that but when I do, I like to watch movies that excite me like Belly, Blow, Wold of Wall Street type shit. For snacks, some gummy bears or some nutty butters, them bitches FYE! See that’s the shit I like about weed, I can eat good, and laugh good. When I’m rapping, it just zone me out. It’s like whatever you doing, you gon do it better if you’re high. Naw fr.”

“Well honestly I don’t smoke. But i enjoy the men that do! They have a unique Flavor about them. they taste great i actually get a contact high cause they become human edibles”

“I love listening to Eberhard Weber’s “no motion picture” and just smoking blunts until the songs over, it’s like 18 minutes long or something like that. I get high and record music that I’m always really hyped on until I hear it back later lol. Other than that I go hang out at the Kava bar around here or something like that and just absorb the people around. I think everyone there is usually high so I don’t feel weird like I’m on a different trip than everyone else like if I go to the grocery store stoned or something like that”
