Once you’ve decided to grow your own marijuana plants, it’s important to understand the intricacies of Michigan weather.
You can’t simply plant the seeds, cross your fingers, and hope that a plant inches its way out of the ground. These seeds are an important investment and it’s wise to treat them as such.
First, consider the typical weather patterns that define Michigan weather. Compared to other parts of the United States, you’ll find a shorter growing season in the Northern Midwest. These seasons tend to stretch a little longer near the Great Lakes region, as the lakes help to delay the onset of the first frost.
Even in the middle of the prime growing season, it’s not uncommon for Michigan to see periods of frosty, cold, damp weather. As such, your best bet will be to stick with a hearty cannabis strain, such as Indica. Most Indica-dominant plants will continue to thrive, even amid the harshest climates and conditions.
Michigan residents are some of the lucky few who can enjoy marijuana both recreationally and medically. Why not capitalize on this freedom and grow the best plants around?

Why Buy Cannabis Seeds Online?
The marijuana plant is naturally dioecious, meaning that it contains both male and female seeds. These are known as regular seeds, producing both male and female plants.
Traditional growers who want to respect the integrity of the plant often prefer this seed type over the rest. However, keep in mind that as a grower, you won’t have control over the sex of the plant and could wind up discarding half of your crop during the early flowering stage.
Wait too long to perform this step, and your male plants will start producing pollen, leading to a seedy crop.
Buy Feminized Seeds in Michigan
As their name implies, feminized seeds are female. We produce them by crossing two female cannabis plants. As they contain only female genetics, they’ll produce only female plants.
Specific Strains to Buy
Some of the best strains for Michigan residents to grow include:
White Widow Feminized Seeds
Critical Feminized Seeds
Autoflower Northern Lights Seeds
Auto Kush CBD Feminized Seeds
Nicole Kush Feminized Seeds
Shiskaberry Kush Feminized Seeds
Autoflower Purple Kush Feminized Seeds
As mentioned above, Indica-dominant strains are an excellent choice, especially given Michigan’s inconsistent and often dreary weather conditions. You can find a wide variety of Indica seeds here.
Founded in 1996, New World Seeds is Michigan’s oldest seed company. They produce a variety of original strains and distribute seeds to patients throughout the state.

Seed libraries are places to get free seeds to plant and grow your own garden–and we have one! Check it out on the second floor of the Main Library of the Traverse Area District Library. We have re-purposed a card catalog to store all the seeds for borrowing All of our seeds are organic, non-gmo, and open pollinated (to the best of our knowledge). Seeds are donated from companies whose seeds have those characteristics and from local gardeners/farmers who donate their seeds from harvest. Seed libraries promote community, protect seed diversity, saves families money, and teaches about the agricultural roots of our region.
