CBD Oil For Golden Retriever

Broad Spectrum Hemp Extract

We source the finest Organically grown US hemp plants to create this extract rich in CBD, CBDV, CBC, terpenes, and flavonoids. It is C02 extracted and then goes through a state-of-the-art organic process to filter down THC levels naturally without the separation of cannabinoids.

Fractioned Coconut Oil (MCT Oil)

It is made from only the finest organically grown coconuts. The healthy fats in this superfood dramatically increase absorption by rapidly carrying CBD to the bloodstream.

According to the AKC “MCTs are “good” fat and can provide several benefits, including being a source of fuel and energy.”

Relievet CBD Oil For Dogs

Relievet CBD oil for dogs is formulated from broad-spectrum CBD extract and organic coconut MCT oil, which work together to maximize the incredible benefits of CBD for dogs.

Our CBD Dog oil is highly bio-available, easy to dose (for all sizes of dogs), and it’ll pass the taste test with even the fussiest of pups.

This CBD oil has been praised by pharmacists, recommended by vets, and has helped many thousands of dogs since we made the first batch in 2018.

From farming and full spectrum to dosage and effects, stick with us and find out how to buy the best CBD oil for dogs.

Dosage

Getting the correct dose of CBD drops for dogs is crucial if you want your fur family to succeed with CBD.

The dosing of CBD depends on the size of the animal; a review of over 1000 studies on CBD dosage confirmed that “higher doses tended to have better therapeutic outcomes compared to lower doses.”

Because dogs can weigh anywhere from 1 to 200 pounds when fully grown, you need a CBD oil that’s made for your dogs’ weight to give them the correct dose.

We have CBD oil for dogs for sale ranging from 150mg per tincture up to our strongest CBD oil which contains 6000mg.

How Much CBD Oil Should You Give Your Dog?

One of the best things about Relievet CBD oil is that it’s very easy to find an accurate dose of CBD oil for your Dog.

Just pick a bottle based on your Dog’s weight, and you’ll see the range we recommend for one dose. The amount is listed in drops, but if you find it easier, there are 30 drops in a full dropper, 15 in a half, and 7 in a quarter.

The low dose will give your Dog 0.45mg of CBD per pound of their body weight, and the high dose is 0.9mg CBD/lb (1-2mg CBD/kg).

Another benefit of this extensive range of CBD oils for dogs is that each bottle will last at least a month of twice daily use for dogs in the weight range and, in many cases, much longer.

How To Use

We suggest giving CBD oil to your Dog by placing the dropper right in their mouth; this way, it’s absorbed directly.

You can place CBD oil on food if your Dog won’t let you drop it in their mouth, but only about 1/5th as much will be absorbed.

For the pickiest pups, we suggest trying our CBD treats for dogs, as they are designed to contain enough CBD to work when eaten.

How Often

The above dose of CBD can be given to your Dog as many as three times a day, but twice a day is enough for most dogs.

It’s also Ok to give your Dog CBD oil occasionally, as you don’t have to taper them off it like with some drugs.

How Long Do The Effects Last?

The initial effects of CBD oil for dogs last from six to eight hours but the benefits have been shown to increase over weeks, months, and even years of use.

Why Choose Relievet CBD For Dogs?

Relievet CBD oil is the easiest, most accurate, safest, and most absorbent way to give an effective dose of CBD oil to your Dog.

These are the reasons we believe this is the best CBD oil for dogs:

Ease of Use: Our revolutionary dosage system lets you give a science-based (0.45-0.9mg CBD/lb) dose of CBD for all dogs without the need for a dosage calculator or special syringe.

Accuracy: Not only is our dosage system easy and accurate to use, but our products contain what they claim to on the label.

Every batch is tested in a third-party lab to verify this, and our organic extract is tested multiple times to ensure its safety.

Safety: Our CBD is clean C02 extracted from hemp and then the THC is organically filtered out to maximize the benefits of this wonderful plant with no risk of a high.

Our plastic droppers are another innovation that make it safe to place CBD right in your Dog’s mouth, where it’s best absorbed.

Bio-availability: The fractioned coconut oil we use has extraordinary properties that aid in the absorption of CBD more than any other carrier oil. It is also unique as it burns off as energy rather than being stored as fat, tastes great, and has an excellent shelf life.

Efficacy: Our broad spectrum extract is rich in CBD, CBDV, CBC, and a host of beneficial terpenes and flavonoids.

In addition to that, all of our CBD oils are:

  • Non-GMO
  • 100% USDA Organic Ingredients

At Relievet, Dogs are family, and they deserve the best. Take a look at our reviews and you’ll see how much we care.

Is CBD Oil Safe For Dogs?

Yes, it’s very safe. Unlike many prescription drugs given to dogs, CBD has never caused a severe side effect or death.

Because Relievet CBD oil doesn’t contain any THC, it has fewer possible side effects than full spectrum CBD oil for dogs.

How Does Safety Compare To Other Options?

We often hear about adverse side effects pet parents have seen with common pharmaceutical drugs. They want to know if CBD is a safer natural alternative.

We asked James Davis, a Pharmacist with a lot of knowledge about over-the-counter and prescription medications, for his opinion on the safety of CBD vs. NSAIDs often given to dogs.

James says that “NSAIDs like carprofen are commonly used to treat conditions that can last for years, such as arthritis.

Surprisingly, the safety studies on NSAIDs in pets are much shorter – often no more than six months. Even in six months, many of these studies identify side effects that worsen over time – like ulcers, liver damage, and kidney damage.

While CBD is less studied, it has only two documented side effects: Diarrhea and liver enzyme changes. Both of these appear to be mild side effects and are reversible.

While more study is ideal, it is worth considering CBD in talking to your veterinarian as potentially safer than NSAIDs.”

Possible Side Effects

One of the reasons CBD has become so popular is its lack of severe side effects for dogs. These are the possible side effects of all broad spectrum CBD oils for dogs:

  • Salivation and lip licking
  • Vomiting
  • Loose-Feces
  • Dehydration
  • Increased Liver Enzymes

These side effects have been shown to be reversible if you reduce the dose. If you’re concerned, it’s always best to check in with your vet.

Drug Interactions

Even though CBD is completely natural, it’s processed by the liver just like many drugs, so interactions are possible.

While we suggest consulting with your vet before giving CBD together with any other drug, this list contains all of the medicines which are known to have a potentially dangerous interaction with CBD.

How We Make CBD Oil

You might not know that a large portion of all CBD oils is not CBD. It’s a carrier oil like hemp seed oil or MCT oil.

The CBD extract (the other ingredient), whether its full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, isolate, or even a mixture of isolates, is dissolved into the carrier oil. This is how we get the bottle of CBD oil to the proper concentration for your dog.

Pure CBD extracts like broad spectrum or full spectrum are similar in consistency to molasses at room temperature. If they are concentrated enough, they will even crystallize into a solid. CBD isolates come in a powder form and can also be dissolved into a carrier oil.

Why CBD And MCT Oil?

Just like us, our dogs are about 80% water. CBD is oil soluble, which means it doesn’t like water.

If you want CBD to work for your dog, it needs to be absorbed into the bloodstream. This is where MCT oil comes in. It has some very unique properties that help it diffuse straight into the blood, carrying the CBD with it. After that, it’s burned off as brain fuel rather than being stored as fat.

That’s just one of the reasons why, at Relievet, coconut-derived USDA organic MCT oil is our choice! It’s also the choice carrier oil of the only FDA-approved CBD medication for people.

CBD for Golden Retrievers: 5 Vital Things To Know Before Giving Your Golden Retriever CBD Oil or CBD Treats

Giving CBD to your golden retriever for the first time can be confusing and intimidating. Over the last 5 years, CBD has exploded unto the scene, with my low quality brands popping up to make a quick buck. How can you determine whether a CBD product is safe and effective for your golden retriever? We’ve created this guide with 5 vital tips for buying CBD for your golden retriever. Tip #5, in particular, might really surprise you!

1. Does the CBD Oil You’re Giving Your Golden Retriever Have a Current COA (certificate of analysis)

Ensuring that the CBD product you use for your golden retriever is pure is absolutely essential due to how CBD is manufactured. CBD is derived from hemp, which tends to absorb toxins from the earth. We have personally tested brands of CBD oil that have contained lead at 10x higher than safe levels.

While most CBD companies will have their product tested once, look for a brand that displays a current and updated COA on their website’s product page. It’s also absolutely vital that a CBD brand tests each and every batch of their CBD oil, as large variances can occur in the quality and purity.

The following is an example of a COA for the Cannanine CBD brand.

2. Has the Pet CBD Brand Been In Business for At Least 3 Years?

CBD for dogs has become a very profitable business, and many fly by night companies have popped up over the past few years. For this reason, we’d recommend looking for a company with a track record of at least 3 years in business. If a company can survive 3 years in business, their products are likely good enough quality to meet the standards of customers and regulators.

Learn more about the CBD endorsed by iHeartDogs, which was founded in 2018.

3. Am I Giving My Golden Retriever The Right Dosage of CBD?

Many first time golden retriever owners make a mistake on dosing CBD. Fortunately, research shows there does not seem to be much of a risk of overdosing on CBD with dogs. However, it is advisable to start with a low dose and slowly increase, monitoring how your golden retriever responds. In some cases, golden retriever owners don’t realize that they can slowly increase the dosing if they fail to see results.

Typical dosing is recommended in the range of 0.2 mg to 0.5 mg per pound of bodyweight. Again, it doesn’t hurt to start low and slow. Oftentimes, if a dog does react negatively to CBD, it is often from the oil contained in the product. Usually the reaction will just be mild vomiting or diarrhea.

4. Understand The Difference Between the 4 Kinds of Products: Broad Spectrum, Full Spectrum, CBD Isolate, and Hemp Seed Oil

CBD for dogs comes with a confusing array of terms. Let’s break down the 4 kinds of products:

  • Hemp seed oil– Hemp seed oil is derived from the seeds of the hemp plant, not the actual plant itself. Sometimes referred to as just “hemp oil”, this ingredient offers many benefits from the Omega-3s contained in it, but it does not contain CBD . Beware of products labeled only as ‘hemp oil’.
  • CBD isolate – An isolate product starts with a full spectrum CBD, and chemically removes the other cannabinoids from the oil. While you still get some of the benefit of the CBD, you lose the benefit of a wider spectrum of the hemp plant. For this reason, we’d recommend avoiding CBD isolates for dogs.
  • Full spectrum – A full spectrum product contains all of the cannabinoids of the plant, including a small amount of THC. THC can be toxic to dogs, even in small doses. For that reason we prefer the next option, especially for smaller pups.
  • Broad spectrum – A broad spectrum CBD product contains all of the cannabinoids with the exception of THC, which is removed. The end result is a product that contains nearly the full spectrum, minus the riskier THC. For most dogs, we believe broad spectrum is the best option.

5. Beware of Purchasing Hemp Products on Amazon or Chewy, As They DO NOT Contain CBD

We have nothing against Amazon or Chewy, but at the time of this writing their policies do not allow for the sale of CBD on their marketplaces. Many unscrupulous brands list their “hemp oil” products on these stores in an effort to trick customers into believing they contain CBD, while it only contains hemp seed oil. While hemp seed oil offers many benefits, it does not offer the calming and pain relief properties of true CBD. For this reason, we’d recommend avoiding Amazon or Chewy when purchasing CBD, and instead purchase directly from the manufacturer’s website.

Frequently Asked Questions About CBD Oil, Chews & Treats for Golden Retrievers

CBD vs. Fluoxetine/Prozac for Golden Retrievers: Which is More Effective?

Prozac/Fluoxetine an SSRI antidepressant used to treat a variety of behavioral disorders in golden retrievers. Many veterinarians prescribe Prozac for separation anxiety. In recent years, many pet owners have begun turning to CBD for more natural anxiety relief for their dogs.

Only you and your veterinarian can make the best choice for your golden retriever’s situation. In my personal experience with my dog’s separation anxiety, while my pup got temporary relief from Prozac, it also significantly changed her personality and energy. Eventually with a process of training and using CBD that I detail here, we were able to finally beat separation anxiety for good.

CBD vs. NSAID Pain Medications like Rimadyl, carprofen, Novox, deracoxib, Deramaxx, firocoxib, Previcox, meloxicam, or Metacam: Which Is More Effective for Golden Retrievers?

NSAID medications can be powerful tools in fighting pain. They do, however, often come with long term side effects that can affect digestion, the kidneys, or the liver. Only you and your veterinarian can make the best choice for your golden retriever, but many owners have found that CBD offers more natural relief without any known side effects. Many golden retriever owners give CBD in addition to prescription medications, but be sure to discuss your plan with your veterinarian.

Can CBD Help My Golden Retriever’s Joint Pain, Hips, Back, Arthritis or Mobility?

The last few years has produced exciting research on the effectiveness of CBD on an older dog’s mobility. Several clinical trials using CBD on dogs have shown improvement in mobility scores for dogs given CBD oil. Remember, arthritis is a degenerative condition that will continue to worsen, however it appears CBD can help slow the progression of pain. According to a poll administered to 400 dog owners, 59% reported that CBD was ‘very effective’ and 19% reported CBD was ‘somewhat effective’ in alleviating their dog’s joint pain.

Can CBD Help My Golden Retriever’s Anxiety?

As detailed here, clinical trials using CBD for humans (who also have an endocannabinoid system like dogs) have shown its ability to calm anxiety. According to a poll administered by iHeartDogs to 400 dog owners using CBD, 41% of owners reported that CBD was ‘very effective’, while 25% reported it was ‘somewhat effective’ in helping their dog’s anxiety.

Can CBD Help My Golden Retriever’s Allergies & Itchiness?

A 2020 study concluded that dogs using CBD were more likely to see a significant decrease in atopic dermatitis symptoms. In fact, the dogs in the study had a 51% decrease in CADESI-4 scores, meaning fewer allergy/itchiness symptoms were present after the study.

An iHeartDogs poll showed that 68% of respondents said that CBD was ‘very effective’ or ‘somewhat effective’ in alleviating their dog’s allergy symptoms.

Can CBD Help My Golden Retriever’s Seizures?

One of the earliest uses for CBD in both humans and dogs was for minimizing epileptic seizures when medication failed to work. One study published in 2018 showed that an astonishing 89% of the dogs studied showed a drop in regular seizures after given CBD. The study was a double blind, placebo controlled test.

The same iHeartDogs poll showed that 70% of respondents claimed that CBD was ‘very effective’ or ‘somewhat effective’ at reducing the number of seizures experienced by their dog.

Which CBD is Best for My Golden Retriever: Oil Tinctures, Soft Chews, or Treats?

Whether you give your golden retriever a CBD oil tincture, a CBD soft/gummy chew, or a treat is a personal choice.

There are some benefits to CBD being absorbed in the mouth sublingually, and your best bet for this rapid absorption is by using a CBD oil tincture. However, if your golden retriever won’t take oil directly to their mouth or in their food, a CBD soft chew or treat is an equally viable option.
